Prospect Pro Specs: O. J. Mayo
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: NBA Draft, Site Features, Talent,
The NBA crowd did not get much of a chance to see O. J. Mayo in March as his USC Trojans lost in the first round to Michael Beasley and Kansas State. The hype around Mayo has been noticeable for a couple of years now. If not for the NBA’s age-related draft eligibility rule, chances are Mayo would have skpped out on the college experience to head straight for the pros.
Cue all the condiment jokes/references e.g. hold the mayo and all that. This guy’s gonna make a GM, a franchise and their fan base pretty excited for next year.

Our one-on-one tourney was a blast to conduct last year and you can click on the link to check it out. Spoiler alert! The link takes you to the winner being crowned and the page has links to all of the match-ups.
So what better way to follow that up but to double the pleasure, double the fun and make it a two-on-two tourney, people! G’yeah! There are only four more days before the regular season comes to a close. Thankfully us hoopheads have two months of playoff action to look forward to, but fantasy play dies down in favor of baseball, golf and barbeque unless you and your buddies set up a playoff pool. So check back every Sunday and give us your ten cents for the match-ups we set up for you! Who will be the “Dynamic Duo” when all is said and done?

It’s the last week, and the DD staff wants to thank all of you faithful readers. Hopefully we’ve been of service, and hopefully you’ve won some leagues with our help. Don’t forget about us in the offseason and definitely don’t for next year’s drafts. That being said, here is the schedule…

I almost exclusively follow the NBA game when it comes to being a basketball fan. There are only so many hours of free time in a given week, and there is only one television in the house. Nonetheless, this is the time where interest in the NCAA in NBA fans like myself shows a significant spike upwards. Memphis and Kansas went into overtime, and with no NBA that night, most basketball fans tuned in.
Predictably, many sites are handing out their year-end awards and discussing the MVP, both in reality and in fantasy. Well, we’ve already done that here. So let’s stay ahead of the curve and start looking ahead to the NBA draft!

Consolation Playoffs in the NBA?

Most of us fantasy fanatics are in some sort of consolation play this week. After all, only two teams in each league can vie for the championship. How are things over in the “real” NBA? Well, the Golden State Warriors are playing almost .600 ball and are still trying to claw into playoff position. How’s that for a tough break?
In my league with family and friends, the teams in the consolation bracket battle for draft position next year. The winner of the consolation playoffs gets the first overall pick, the runner-up gets second pick and so on. It’s enough incentive for everyone to continue setting their lineups, and it’s enough of a prize that people take it seriously enough to put forth the effort. If you have a league with little GM turnover year to year, this is something you can do so that everyone can enjoy fantasy hoops right to the very last day, not just the finalists.
Perhaps the NBA should adopt a consolation playoff format and the winner gets first pick in the draft. This certainly would guard against bad teams tanking it at the end of the season.

Beyond The Arc - Week 24

(Editors Note: Apologies for the tardiness of this post. While Brandon was punctual as usual, I’m late in pinch-hitting the posting of his piece. Try saying that five times fast.)
So, next week is the first week of the league finals in most formats. Hopefully you are still alive, and even more so, hopefully you’ve had fun this season. For me personally, this was my best and most fulfilling fantasy season to date. Take a long look at that roster, see what you can dump, see what you can move around, and take a look at who’s hot and who’s not, because these final two weeks are what it’s all about. This week I’ll try and focus on guys who you may still be able to pick up.
Here’s next week’s slate of games (4/7-4/13):

2007-08 Rookie Crop
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Props, Rookies, Roto, Talent, Houston Rockets, Seattle Supersonics, Los Angeles Clippers,
So the NBA schedules games on Christmas and Easter, but they always, always, ALWAYS avoid the night the NCAA crowns their Men’s Division I champion. Why? “One shining moment…”
Even the biggest NBA die-hards will check out college ball around this time of year. The tourney kicks off draft hype. With players like Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, Brandon Rush etc making it to the Final Four this year, it’s been an excellent time to check out these blue chip prospects. Tyler Hansbrough has been named Player of the Year in quite a few places, but most have his pro potential listed pretty low.
So with no NBA action scheduled for Monday, April 7th, it seems like a good time to reflect on the rookies.

2007-08 Fantasy NBA MVP
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: Editorial, H2H, Props, Roto, Talent, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns,
It’s just a matter of time before the usual suspects roll out their year-end awards and mock draft first round predictions for next season. Obviously there is still much to be decided this season; namely head-to-head leagues are in the middle of the semi-final week, the playoff pictures in both the East and the West need to be decided, and an NCAA champ needs to be crowned.
So I figure Dropping Dimes might as well be the place to stay ahead of the curve and look at the candidates for the real and fantasy MVP. If we are looking for four players to make up a “Mount Rushmore” for the 2007-08 season, three players end up being no-brainer picks. The fourth? Well, read on.
